​O tempo verbal past perfect (passado perfeito) é utilizado na língua Inglesa para descrever ações que aconteceram no passado, de forma mais precisa, antes de outras ações passadas.

​

O past perfect é formado pelo simple past do verbo to have (had) + o particípio do verbo principal.

​

É necessário observar que o particípio dos verbos em inglês será formado de duas formas: os regulares, pelo acréscimo da partícula “-ed”; e os irregulares que possuem, cada um, sua própria forma.

1. ​When I arrived he had already left. (tinha saído.)

2. I couldn't pay the bill because I had forgotten my wallet at home.​ (tinha esquecido)

3. I had read the book before I watched the movie.​ (tinha lido)

4. I wish I had had a camera when I was a child. (ter tido)

5. ​He'd read the book before he watched the movie.

6. I have just finished my homework.​ (acabei de terminar - relação com o presente)

• ​I had finished the job when my boss arrived. AFFIRMATIVE

• I had not finished the job when my boss arrived. NEGATIVE

• Had I finished the job when my boss arrived?

  INTERROGATIVE
