HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language
It is used to create web pages.
It is not a programming language.
You need a web browser to display HTML.

There are chevrons < > around tags.
The tags tell the browser what to do with the contents of the tag.
Most tags have a closing tag with a forward slash.

How to check
We can prove that all webpages have boilerplate tags by looking at the underlying code. To check:
Right click on a blank area of the web page
Select 'View Page Source'
Some developers even leave easter eggs in their code.
