Learning New Vocabulary Words!
New vocabulary words are very important for you to learn. You will see new words in the reading you do in all of your classes and the more words you know, the better it will be for you. So do your best to learn as many new words as you can!
3
Stowed, Consume, Expectantly, Distributed, Consultant, Replenish
Can you guess which word goes with which picture?
4
One of the places that we hear this term often is when travelling on an airplane. If you take luggage with you on the plane where you sit down at your seat, they will ask you to 'stow' your carry on bag. They want you to put your bag in the overhead compartment during the flight time.
Have you ever gone anywhere on a airplane? Did you stow your bags properly?
Stow - Pack or store (an object) carefully and neatly in a particular place.
These ladies are stowing their luggage in the compartments above their seats on a airplane. This keeps the luggage secure during the flight.
5
Depending on what is happening in the story or what you are reading, the meaning of the word will be different. Look at each meaning and see if you can match each one to the picture shown
What have you consumed today?
Consume
(We will look at 3 definitions)
1 -> eat, drink, or ingest (food or drink)
2 -> buy (goods or services)
3 -> use up (a resource)

Some people can't wait for a movie to start. They wait expectantly - they are expecting the movie to start
Expectantly - with an excited feeling that something is about to happen, especially something good.
Examples: "She waited expectantly for his answer."
"The dog waited expectantly for the boy to kick the ball."
7
The picture shows a man who delivers newspapers to people, on his bicycle. Once he delivers the papers to the customers, the newspapers are considered to be distributed
Have you ever passed out papers in class? You distributed the papers!
Distributed - shared or spread out.
Example: "The distributed supplies are monitored to make sure everyone gets their share."
8
Have you ever talked to an expert about anything?
Consultant - a person who provides expert advice professionally. Think of a consultant as a person who is a expert in something that people will talk to to get advice on how to do things or when they need help. The consultant will be able to tell you the best way to do something or how to solve a problem
Consultants are people who have answers to problems
9
Have you ever refilled your glass after you drank water? What about your water bottle? If you did, then you replenished your glass or bottle. When you run out of something and then you get more to replace what was used up, that is also called replenish.
When was the last time you replenished your water bottle?
Replenish - fill (something) up again.
The glass has water in it
The glass is empty after you drink the water.
You refill the glass after it is empty.
