Root Words Auto and Graph
A root word is a word or word part that forms the basis of new words through the addition of prefixes and suffixes. In traditional root words, these words come from Latin and Greek languages, and typically do not stand alone as a complete word. Understanding the meanings of common roots can help you work out the meanings of new words as you encounter them.
We will look at words with the roots Auto and Graph in this lesson.
Remember! --> Prefixes are at the beginning of a word and suffixes are at the end of a word.

Autograph means a signature, especially that of a celebrity written as a memento for an admirer. The baseball shown was signed by a famous baseball player. The writing on the baseball - the name - that is called an Autograph

The root word graph means that the meaning of the word is linked to writing or recording something.
Autograph - This is a word we just looked at previously! It means a signature, especially that of a celebrity written as a memento for an admirer. The graph part of the word refers to the written words
The author of the book is signing the book.
The actual signature is the Autograph.
