What is a simple sentence?

• this is also called an independent clause

• it can stand on its own and express a complete thought​

Compound Sentences

What are compound sentences?​

• co​mpound sentences have at least two simple sentences or independent clauses.

• these simple sentences are joined by coordinating conjunctions and, but, or

• if the sentence is too long, a comma can be added after the first simple sentence ​

1. Eric arrives from Canada and Michael meets him at the airport.

2. Eric and his family are tired and sleepy, but they are excited to tour the city.
