Biomes of the world

By

2

A biome is a large area characterized by its vegetation, soil, climate, and wildlife.

3

Biomes of the World

  • Tropical Rainforest.

  • Temperate Forest.

  • Desert.

  • Tundra.

  • Taiga (Boreal Forest)

  • Grassland.

  • Savanna.

  • There are also marine (ocean and sea)biomes

4

Biomes are sometimes confused with similar ecological concepts, such as habitats and ecosystems. Ecosystems are the interactions between biota, such as plants and animals, within the environment, and many ecosystems can make up a single biome. Nutrient and energy flow also play a critical role in ecosystems. A habitat, on the other hand, is specific to a population or species; it is the area in which that group lives. Meanwhile, biomes describe life on a much larger scale than either habitats or ecosystems.

5

6

The most striking visual difference between taiga and tundra is the presence of trees. The taiga has a thick forest of conifers such as pine and spruce, while in the tundra trees are absent completely. This is due in part to the lack of water available in the tundra, but also is a result of permafrost.

7

The marine biome is the biggest biome in the world! It covers about 70% of the earth. It includes five main oceans: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern, as well as many smaller Gulfs and Bays. Marine regions are usually very salty!

8

Our Biome

Temperate Deciduous Forest

The average daily temperatures range between -30°C (-22°F) and 30°C (86°F) with a yearly average of 10°C (50°F). Hot summers and cold winters are typical in this biome.

Precipitation

On average, this biome receives 750 to 1,500 millimeters (30 to 59 inches) of rain per year.

Vegetation

Broadleaf trees (oaks, maples, beeches), shrubs, perennial herbs, and mosses
