Dependent Clause
Independent Clause
There are two types of clauses, independent and dependent. Clauses have a subject and a verb. Independent clasues are complete or simple sentences while dependent clauses cannot stand alone and need an independent clause to become a complete sentence.
For example:
I want to go to the movies because I heard the new Spiderman was really good.

A phrase is a small group of words that adds meaning to a sentence. A phrase is not a complete sentence because it is missing a subject and a verb.
For example:
Ms. DuPont, my English teacher, is out today because she went to the doctor's office.

Prepositions are words which link nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence

Prepositional Phrase
A prepositional phrase starts with the preposition and ends with the object or noun that belongs to the preposition.
For example:
The dog lays in her kennel at night.
in her kennel - the preposition is "in" and the object is "kennel."
at night - the preposition is "at" and the object is "night"
