After more than a hundred years ruling the Area, the British decided to leave India in 1947,

The British decided that it would take 5 years to properly remove themselves from the Area
So they decided to do it in 4 months.
They also decided the best way to remove themselves would be to divide up the Area into multiple countries. This is Called Partition
