  1. The British ​decided that it would take 5 years to properly remove themselves from the Area

  2. So they decided to do it in 4 months.

  3. They also decided the best way to remove themselves would be to divide up the Area into multiple countries​. This is Called Partition

  • Under British Rule the two countries were not only 1 with each other, but with India as well

  • When Britain divided up South Asia a group known as the Muslim League helped to unify East and West Pakistan under 1 government

  • In 1970, a massive cyclone hit the coast of East Pakistan and the central government in West Pakistan responded weakly to the devastation

  • ​The Eastern populations were angered over the government’s lack of consideration for them in response to the cyclone and in other matters.

  • East Pakistan, with the aid of the Indian military, challenged West Pakistan and declared independence to become Bangladesh in 1972.
