Pétanque: a game for all.

​Pétanque originates in Provence, in the south of France, but it is played all over the world. It probably derives from some Roman game.

​Pétanque can be played anywhere outdoors on a flat surface (grass or sand works well) although the official rules call for a rectangle 4x15 ft.

A game begins by throwing out the target ball called a cochonnet (little pig), taking out the boules (balls), and beginning the round.

There are FOUR teams, one per color: ROUGE, BLEU, VERT, JAUNE

​Teams take turns to throw their boules, ONE AT A TIME, one team after another aiming for the cochonnet.

Once all boules are in the field, the closest color to the cochonnet WINS and is first to throw next round.

The word Pétanque is derived from pieds (feet) and tanqués (“firmly attached” or “nailed”) in the local dialect.
