vocabulary mastery is ...

One of the factors to master English as foreign language. It means that the students have the ability in understanding and using the word and meaning. The larger vocabulary the students master, the better they perform their language.

WHAT is vOCABULARY MAStery?

Mastering English vocabulary to Indonesian students would not be the same with mastering English to the students from another country. Indonesian language does not belong to the family with English, like Ducth or Germany. Indonesian language is different from English. This factor will influence the difficulty of learning English to the most of Indonesian students.

what are the types of vocabulary?

About the types of vocabulary according to Thornbury (2002: 3-12),

he explained that there are at least 6 types of vocabulary, these are the types of vocabulary that Thornbury means:

  1. ​Word Classes (Part of Speech)

  2. ​Word Families (Affix or shift in the shape of a word)

  3. ​Word Formation (Formations or combined forms of words)

  4. Multi-word​ (Phrasal verbs and idioms)

  5. ​Collocations (The frequentness of two or more words together)

  6. ​Homonyms (Words that have the same shape but differ in meaning)

​Part of speech is a part in English that learns a class of words or word types. This class of words is used to create phrases, clauses, and sentences that require word order. So, it belongs to the realm of grammar, because of its relation with structure.

For example, at the level of phrase, we say "beautiful girl" not "girl beautiful". because we have to placed adjective first before noun.

​Generally, there are eight types of parts of speech, and these are : noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, preposition, and interjection.
