Reading:

Now read the text below and answer the questions in the next slide on your notebook.

In group work, students work in groups of three to five on a task in a responsible and collaborative manner. Group work particularly develops social skills, but also pursues the objective of intensifying disciplinary learning. The results of the work are developed so that they are presented to the whole class at the end of their design. Usually, the teacher plans the group work, but leaves the students in their own application space. During the work, the teacher withdraws and is content to observe, advise and assess the quality of the work. Group work should be integrated into the process of the course. As a general rule, it is necessary to start with a sentence explaining the prerequisites for successfully performing the job. An explanation is essential upstream, both at the disciplinary and methodological level. For disciplinary aspects, it may be useful to show an example to the whole class before individual work on new documents is implemented. It is useful to break down together a specialized and difficult text once, to work on a historical source, to do a case analysis or to design a mind map on the board before assigning these tasks to the groups. It is also important that the objective is transparent from the preparation phase. Students should be informed at the start of the group work sequence of the purpose and expectations. Excessive explanations should be avoided during the preparation phase, as they are somewhat demotivating. It is enough that students know clearly and concisely what they should do, why they should do it and how they can do it.
