Leader in Me

3

What is Leader in Me?

Leader in Me is an evidence-based, comprehensive model that builds leadership and life skills in students, creates a high-trust school culture, and lays the foundation for sustained academic achievement. There are over 5,000 Leader in Me schools in all 50 states and in over 50 countries. Our mission is to unleash the greatness in students, educators, and school communities everywhere.

4

A New Way to Define Leadership

Many people equate leadership with a formal position of authority. But we believe anyone can be a leader by intentionally leading one’s own life (leading self) and working well with and encouraging the greatness in others—whether family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues (leading others).

How do parents support their children in the Character Building process?

You Are the First Teacher

Take the lead at home by teaching and modeling principles of effectiveness for all family members.

6

Over the span of 180 days, a student only spends 11 percent of the time at school. The majority of his or her time—almost 50 percent—is dedicated to family life at home and other important communities outside of school.

You are your child’s first and most influential teacher by laying the foundation for the education of their mind, heart, body, and spirit. No matter what is going on at school you can help your child discover the leader within themselves and prepare for a future of contribution and service.

Even if you have a school that already supports the principles laid out in Leader in Me, your job is no less important.
