Predictions when you are certain

Will and won't

8

USE

We use will and might to make predictions about what we expect to happen in the future.

9

Will and Won't (will not)

We use "will" and "won't" followed by the verb in infitive to make predictions about the future.

Example: It will be sunny tomowrrow => There'll be lots of traffic tonight => She won't be here in time => It definitely won't rain tonight.

We can use the contracted version of will => 'll. We use Will/Won't followed by the verb in infinitive when we are certain about our prediction.

10

STRUCTURE

Both will and might are modal auxiliary verbs. This means that they are followed by the infinitive of the verb without “to”:

It will rain later. (Not it will to rain … )

It might rain later. (Not it might to rain … ”)

Predictions when you are less certain

Will + Probably / Probably + Won't

12

Will probably / Probably won't

We use "Probably" to talk about predictions you are not very certain about but it is very likely to happen.

Examples: I'll probably go to the gym tonight => You probably won't see Karen tomorrow.

Probably goes after will but it goes before won't.

13

degrees of certainty

Very sure

People will definitely work from home more in the future.

Robots definitely won't replace all human jobs.

Sure

Donna will really enjoy this film.

You won't regret it.

14

Almost sure

We'll probably finish the project by tomorrow.

He probably won't have enough time.

Not sure

might go to the party, but I'm not sure yet.

He hasn't studied much, so he might not pass the exam.

Question with Will

Will in questions

16

Will/Won't + Subject + Sentence

We use Will/Won't in questions at the beginning of the questions followed by the subject of the questions and the rest of the sentence.

Examples: Will the exam be difficult? => Won't you go to school today?

We don't use neither Will nor Might to ask questions. However, we use them to answer to them.

Example: -WIll he get the job? -He might. I'm not sure.

Might vs Will

The main difference between ‘might’ and ‘will’ is that ‘might’ is used in situations having the lesser possibility of occurrence. Whereas ‘Will’ is used for decisions, predictions, promises and offers, and which have higher and concrete chances of occurrence. The nature of inculcating ‘might’ in a sentence brings out the possibility. But ‘will’ brings out assurance of a happening.
