Quick Response Code readers are most commonly mobile phone cameras. Why wouldn't a pen reader or CCD reader be well suited to read QR codes?

Why are phone cameras a good idea?

Pen readers and CCD readers typically read a line of information. Fine for 1-D barcode but not good for 2-D barcodes such as Quick Response codes.

Analogue to digital convertor.

Digital Signal Processing.

Harvard Architecture

Because it can carry out fetch and execute at once as it has instruction + data bus --> so both can used at the same time...so if lots of data...can process it more quickly.....

(remember modern computers use both kinds of architecture...harvard for cache...)

Explain how the system used in a supermarket can control the quantity of tins of beans in stock so that the chance of running out is minimised.(6 marks)

The number of items stocked in a shop is held in a database.

To monitor levels when items are purchased they are

scanned by a bar code laser scanner at the till or a CCD scanner by an individual shopper (CCD scanners do not use potentially dangerous lasers).

This means the current stock level is monitored.

In addition when stock is delivered to the stock it will be scanned, probably by a CCD scanner or possibly by a company mobile phone to scan a Quick Response (QR) Code. A QR code maybe used as more detailed information may be used for other purposes when stock is delivered such time of delivery, location of warehouse the stock came from.

The means the amount of stock can be accurately monitored.

The database could use triggers to send out an automatic request for more stock if the stock level is getting too low, or possibly if rate of purchase of stock suddenly increases. This might happen to sales of cider in hot weather and may indicate that more stock is needed, even if there is a fair amount left .
