​CAUSE AND EFFECT RELATIONSHIP

Pengertian

Cause

Pada noun berarti seseorang atau sesuatu yang menyebabkan sesuatu terjadi.

Pada verb berarti tindakan yang membuat sesuatu terjadi.

Contoh:

The cause (noun) of fire was the electrical short (Penyebab terjadinya kebakaran tersebut adalah konslet listrik)

The electrical short caused (verb) the fire. (Konslet listrik menyebabkan kebakaran)

-Effect

Effect pada noun berarti perubahan yang merupakan akibat dari suatu tindakan atau sebab.

Sedangkan dalam verb, effect ditulis menjadi affect yang berarti menghasil sebuah efek atau menyebabkan perubahan pada sesuatu.

Contoh:

Did the noise have an effect (noun) on your concentration? (Apakah kebisingan memiliki efek pada konsentrasimu?)

Did the noise affect (verb) your concentration? (Apakah kebisingan mempengaruhi konsentrasimu?)

A.    Jika diikuti oleh noun atau frasa noun

Contoh: Due to heavy rain (cause), we can’t go to concert (effect). (Dikarenakan hujan lebat, kita tidak bisa pergi ke konser)

• because of

Contoh: He got good grade (effect) because of his study habits (cause). (Dia mendapatkan nilai yang bagus karena kebiasaan belajarnya)

• owing to

Contoh: I didn't attend the practice (effect) owing to the headache (cause). (Saya tidak datang ke latihan karena sakit kepala)

• as a consequence of

Contoh: He can’t take the exam (effect) as a consequence of cheating (cause). (Dia tidak bisa mengikuti ujian karena menyontek)

• as a result of

Contoh: As a result of illegal hunting (cause), the number of wild animals began to decrease (effect). (Sebagai hasil dari perburuan liar, jumlah hewan liar mulai berkurang.

• thanks to

Contoh: Thanks to your help (cause), we were successful (effect). (Berkat bantuan Anda, kami berhasil sukses)

​B.    Jika diikuti oleh subject + verb atau frasa verb

• because

Contoh: Because he was sick (cause), he did not cook well (effect). (Karena dia sedang sakit, dia tidak bisa memasak dengan baik)

• since

Contoh: The concert was canceled (effect) since it’s raining (cause) (Konsernya dibatalkan karena hujan)

• as

Contoh: As it is raining again (cause), we will have to stay at home (effect). (Karena hujan lagi, kita harus tinggal di rumah)

• for

Contoh: I decided to call it a day (cause) – for I was feeling tired (effect). (Saya memutuskan untuk mengakhiri hari, karena saya merasa lelah)
