How does this help us all have a great lunch?

8

Okay, so those are the ROAR Expectations, but what does that look like? Lets talk about the first R in ROAR.

9

  • Use a soft voice

  • Give attention to staff

  • Respect others' personal space

Respect!

10

Use a Soft Voice

YOU are responsible for what you say, and how you say it. There are A LOT of kids in the Cafetorium at one time. We need to remember that all of those voices together can be overwhelming. Remember to talk quietly to the people around you. DO NOT yell or talk above a soft voice to a friend who is tables away. Things can get carried away, and then when the trouble starts. When you start talking louder, the kids near you can't hear each other, so they start talking louder. Do you see where this is going?

If it starts happening too much, you'll end up having a silent lunch. Nobody wants that!

11

Give attention to staff

That means all the staff! If they are an adult, they are in charge. You need to do what they say. You may not always understand why, or see the bigger picture. That's okay.

If an adult is trying to get your attention, quietly let the students around you know, so they can pay attention, too.

Know your lunch choices before you go in to get your lunch. This will help speed up the line. Speak up when someone asks you a question, or if you are asking one yourself.

12

Respect others' personal space

Have you ever sat next to that annoying person at lunch who leaned over and asked you to guess what food was all chewed up in their mouth? Gross. Just gross. Nobody likes that. Instead, let's give everyone around us the personal space they need to enjoy their lunch. Lunch is a great time to chat with each other, and give your brain a rest. But, if we use that time to get all wrapped up in other people's business, that nice peaceful time can turn bad. And, it doesn't end when lunch is over. It leaks back into the classroom, and disrupts our learning.

  • Stay in your own space

  • Be kind

  • Be considerate

16

Know your PIN number

This is the 6 digit number you will be using every day. It is the same number you had last year. If you don't know it, you need to learn it!

17

Stay in your assigned seat

In the beginning of the school year, seats were assigned in the cafetorium. This is where you will need to sit for the rest of the year. If there is an issue, let your teacher know. We can't help you if we don't know there is an issue.

No switching seats, or moving around the cafetorium. Stay put!

18

Talk quietly to others

Hmmm... It's almost like I remember this one on an earlier slide. It must be super important!!

The cafetorium can get crazy loud if we let it. So don't! Talk quietly to the people around you. If some of your friends don't sit near you, talk to them at recess.

19

Clean up your area

When lunch is over, it is your responsibility to clean up your area. Anything you spill, you clean up. This includes the floor. If we are each staying in our own space, than all of the mess around you will be yours. There is not much time between lunches to clean, so it is your responsibility to leave the area clean for the next kids. Nobody wants to eat on a dirty, messy table. Remember the Golden Rule? Treat others the way you want to be treated.

20

Multiple Choice

Which one of these is UNACCEPTABLE behavior?

1

You always stand in front of the same person in line, so you use their PIN number instead of yours.

2

You talk quietly to the people around you.

3

You clean up your area when you finish eating.

4

You always sit in your assigned seat.

What is your favorite school lunch?

22

On to the A... Always Safe

This one is easy!

  • Keeps hands, feet and objects to ourselves

  • Eat my own food

  • Walk

  • Line up Orderly

23

Keeps hands, feet and

objects to ourselves

This is self explanatory. Do not touch each other. Not with your hands, not with your feet, not with anything! Don't throw anything, either.

24

Eat your own food

Sharing is awesome, but not with your lunch. You don't know who has food allergies, or is gluten free, or who is diabetic, or has other health issues that impact what they can eat. You are also not allowed to bring big bags of chips for yourself, or to share. No pop, either. We don't need everyone getting all caffeinated, and then not being able to settle down for reading in the afternoon. If you do bring your own lunch, make sure that it is an appropriate lunch. A candy bar and cookies does not make a good lunch.

25

Walk

It is very important to walk when you are at school. There is no running unless you are at gym or recess. The cafetorium is not different. There is a good chance that someone spilled their drink, or dropped some peaches on the floor. You wouldn't want to slip on that! So, ALWAYS walk in the cafetorium!

media

26

Line up orderly

There are lots of students coming and going from the cafeteria. Sometimes, teachers get stuck in the office, or other issues arise, when it is time for them to come pick you up. If chaos is ensuing, because everyone is lining up like crazy people-shouting and throwing things, nobody will be able to hear directions. So, line up quietly, and look to your teacher or the other adults in the room to see when your class is leaving. At this point, lunch is over. Get your brain back in the zone for your next class!

27

Multiple Choice

Which of these is an unsafe behavior?

1

Mickey knew that Donald really liked peanut butter and jelly, so he shared his sandwich with him.

2

Goofy was kind of a clutz, so he always made sure to walk in the cafeteria, so he wouldn't slip on anything.

3

Daisy didn't see her teacher right away, but she made sure to line up quietly and orderly, so she'd be able to hear instructions.

4

Pluto's table was pretty full, so he made sure to keep his hands and feet to himself.

28

The last R is for Responsibly

How can you act responsibly?

  • Clean up after ourselves

  • Follow Cafetorium procedures.

  • Wait our turn

  • Always sit at assigned table

29

Clean up after yourself!

Messes happen, clean them up! When you leave your seat in the cafeteria, it should be as clean or cleaner than when you got there. Hey, that works for the planet, too! If you have plastic containers in your lunch, they can be put in the bins in the cafetorium. If they need to be rinsed out, you can bring them back to class, quickly rinse them, and put them in the classroom recycle bin.

media

30

Follow Cafetorium procedures

When you go into the Cafetorium, you will sit in your seat, and wait until you are called to line up to get your lunch. You will stay in your seat until it is time to throw trash away, get snack, or line up. The first week of school, you will be told all about the procedures when you go to lunch. Pay attention carefully, because following these expectations make lunch more enjoyable for everyone.

31

Wait your turn

It is important to wait your turn in the cafetorium. It will be your turn before you know it. Do not cut in line, be patient! There is plenty of food for everyone.

32

Always sit at assigned table

In the cafetorium, you need to sit in your assigned seat. Everyone is placed in their assigned seat for a reason. If you are having an issue with the other students around you, please let your teacher know. We can't fix problems, unless we know they are happening.

33

Multiple Choice

Which of these is NOT a way to act responsibly in the cafetorium?

1

Clean up after yourself.

2

Follow cafetorium procedures.

3

Wait your turn.

4

Sit wherever you want.

34

Multiple Choice

If you are acting responsibly in the cafetorium, you might...

1

Make sure you leave your table clean.

2

Share your lunch with your friends.

3

Get in line to get your lunch as soon possible.

4

Throw all of your plastic containers in the trash.
