​Meaning - It is the mismanagement (bad practice) of solid waste (trash or garbage) from human and their activities, waste collectors and waste disposal contractors.

Consequences of improper disposal of Garbage

Burning garbage releases dangerous gases and dust which contributes to global warming and air pollution.

Burying garbage causes air and water pollution. ​

Barbados is 100% plastic free. We use biodegradable (easy to break down) products.

It takes 1000 years for a plastic trash bag ​to decompose in a landfill (break down).

Beach Pollution

Garbage pollution on the beach is also a problem in Barbados

Things like fishing nets and cords, bags, food containers etc.. are found on the beach. ​

Consequences of Beach Pollution

It promotes beach erosion (​wear and tear).

It is causing harm to our Sea turtles. The Hawksbill and Green Sea Turtle are critically endangered (becoming extinct). ​

This ​waste is often caused by irresponsible beach visitors and fishermen littering and leaving their waste behind after a picnic or when they are fishing when they leave the beach.
