Action Verbs

A helping verb that comes before the main verb

such as are, am, were, was, etc. in a sentence. Together the helping verb and the main verb form a verb phrase.

Helping verbs are part of verb phrases and are attached to other verbs- this means helping verbs can come as a group of verbs and have action AND linking verbs next to them. Helping verbs often refer to time or direction.

Helping

Linking verbs relate to the main subject and are always related to a state of being, feeling, or detail on the subject. Linking verbs (like action verbs) can also be observations such as tasting, smelling, or observing.
