There is + singular nouns.

​(countable nouns and non-countable nouns)

Countable nouns are those noun you can count (1, 2, 3...).

​E.g. There is a chair.​ (= 1 chair)

Non-countable noun are those nouns that cannot be counted. They do not have a plural form: There is a lot of traffic here!
