Activity: instructions

team work and presentation

you are going to form a group of 2 or 3 kids with the same interest, (by given you 4 questions, and you need to choose one of them and group with the same appetite students). then you are together to find the solutions for this choice question. includes the motion diagram, s-t graph or v-t graph you will use for analyzing, neat and logic workings in orgnaized manner and clear and clean writing solutions till the answer.

Q1:

A car is travelling at 36km/h when the driver has to perform an emergency stop. During the time the driver takes to appreciate the situation and apply the brakes the car has travelled 7m (thinking distance). It then pulls up with constant deceleration in a further 8m (braking distance) giving a total stopping distance 15m. what is time length of the driver's react time and deceleration? what if he is driving at 60km/h, what is his stopping distance if he remains the same react time and deceleration?

Q2

A car travelling in a straight line accelerating uniformly from rest for x metres . The car then travels a distance of 6x metres at a constant speed taking 2 mins, after which it decelerates uniformly until it stops. If the total distance is 7.5x, calculate the time length for the whole journey.

A train has a maximum allowed speed of 25m/s. with its brakes fully applied, it has a deceleration of 1m/s2. if it can accelerate at a constant rate of 0.5m/s2 find the shortest time in which it can travel from on station to rest at the next station 8km away.

Q4:

The driver of a train travelling at 150km/h on a straight level track sees a signal to stop 1km ahead and, putting the brakes on fully, comes to rest at the signal. He stops for 2mins and then resumes the journey attaining the original speed in distance of 5km. Assuming constant acceleration and deceleration, find how much time has been lost owing to the stoppage.
