​Types of essays:

Argumentative- writing used to make a claim about a specific perspective

Expository- writing used to teach about a specific topic; it's your job to INFORM the reader​

Rubric- a rubric is used to score your writing. You will be scored on the structure of your writing (4 pts), how you use evidence and elaboration (4 pts), and your grammar you use (4 pts).

Structure of an essay

Introduction- short paragraph used to grab the reader's attention and introduce the writer's main ideas or reasons.​

Body 1- Detailed paragraph that ONLY discusses the main idea 1 or reason 1. Includes text evidence, elaboration, citations, and transitional phrases.​

Body 2- Detailed paragraph that ONLY discusses the main idea 2 or reason 2. Includes the same as body 1.​

Conclusion-​ short paragraph that wraps up the topic and ends with a bang!
