Gerta immediately cleaned the pot till it was bright and shiny, then the pot began to dance around the room. It danced out of the house and down the road, then it danced into a rich man's house. Just then, the rich man's cook was busy making pudding. He saw the nice clean pot and said, "I shall cook my pudding in the pot." He placed all kinds of good things into the pot to make the pudding. He did not stop until the pot was full, then the pot began to dance again. It danced out of the rich man's house.

"Come back!" cried the cook. But the little pot danced away. It danced down the road until it reached the home of Hans and Gerta. The family had a very fine dinner that day. They ate and ate until they could eat no more.

The following day, the pot danced till it came to a rich man's barn. There were some people working there. "Let's see how much this pot can hold," they said to each other. So they filled the pot with wheat. Again, the pot began to dance, away from the people.

"Come back!" cried the people. But the little pot danced on until it danced home to Hans and Gerta. Gerta was very happy for she could make bread out of the wheat.

The next day, the pot danced into a rich man's country house. The rich man was counting his money. He was putting it into the bags. When he saw the pot, he said to himself, "I can also use that pot." So he filled the pot with money. Again, the pot danced away. The rich man called, "Comeback!" but the pot would not. It danced home to Hans and Gerta.

When it got there, it danced round, round, and round. It went so fast that the money rolled all over the floor.

After that, Hans and Gerta were never poor again. Every day, the pot would dance. The children would take hands and dance with it, too.
