- Look at the question and decide what part of speech is needed. There are several tips to determine what part of speech is needed. For instance, use suffixes. 

+ Words ending with “ful, ous, able, ic, etc” are often adjectives. In addition, adjectives often follow the verb “to be” or other verbs related to senses such as look, smell, taste, etc. 

+ Words ending with “ly” are often adverbs.
