They say the three most important elements needed for a business to succeed are location, location, and location. The same holds true for the ACT reading test. The key to doing well on the reading section is to sharpen your location skills.
The answer to every ACT reading question is contained within the content of the passages, meaning that you will need to remember where things are.

The first step when approaching an ACT reading passage is to skim the content. This allows you to get an idea of where important information is.
You can answer the questions more quickly when you know exactly where to go in the passage to find the answers.

If you are confused by a word or sentence, keep going.

1.3.2 How to Scan
Reading over a passage quickly to get a grasp of the main idea is called skimming. However, skimming is not enough to get all of the answers right. Why is that?
In order to answer questions on the test, you will have to go back and scan the passage, searching for specific detail mentioned in the question.

For example, a question may ask in what way the author uses the term jelly-bean. You might not have read the passage thoroughly enough to know this right away, but you may remember the term jelly-bean from the passage and roughly where it appeared. This allows you to go back to the text and scan that section for information in order to answer the question quickly.

Start searching that topic by paragraph.

Look for anything that matches the topic.
Read five lines around that topic to understand the context.
