The essays will always provide you articles/passages to read and a writing prompt for you to respond to.
Read the prompt first so that as you read you start picking out the info that you will use in your essay.

The essay should be organized
Make sure your essay is broken down into 3 general sections. The introduction (1 paragraph), the body (2-3 paragraphs) and the conclusion (1 paragraph).

Give 2-3 clear reasons why you picked that side
You need 2 things:

Repeat reason you will be addressing.
Give evidence from the article that supports your reason
Give a personal example that relates to the reason

Go back and read your essay out loud. You are checking for grammar/spelling errors and checking that it flows well. If you are struggling to read, it's because you should be editing.
Double check that you have completed everything in the outline.
Check that your writing is legible.
