Place value is the digit's value

in word form​.

Value is the digit's value in number form.​

Example:​ 3,845

Place value and value​

The place value of the digit 8 is in the hundredths​ place.

​Its value is 800.

682,100,365 can be read as six hundred and eighty-two million, one hundred thousand, three hundred and sixty-five.​

15 unit cubes can be said as 15 or fifteen.​

reading and writing numbers​

When comparing numbers you need to see which number is bigger starting from left to right​.

Examples: Which is bigger 234,942 or 234,932? In the numbers we see that everything is the same except the numbers in the tens place. 234,942 has a 4 and 234,932 has a 3 and 4 is bigger than a 3 so 234,942 is bigger than 234,932.

Comparing and ordering numbers​

When rounding numbers if the number is 1-4 then round it down but if it is 5-9 then round it up.​

Examples: Round 128,494 to the nearest ten. Since we are rounding to the nearest ten then we​ go to the ones and since it is 1-4 then we round it down so 128,494 is approximately 128,490.
