​Definition of Quantifiers:

A quantifier is a word used before a noun to describe its quantity.

​Definition of Quantifiers for countable nouns:

These quantifiers quantify only the countable nouns. These are few, many, a number of, several, etc.

Few means "not many (people or things)." It is used to say that there are not a lot of people or things. A few means "some (people or things)." It is used to say that there are a small number of people or things.

​The Difference Between "Few" and "A Few"

I have a few [=some/a small number of] friends.

I have few friends. [=I do not have many friends]

 

A few people [=some people] arrived early.

Few people [=not very many people] arrived early.

​Quantifiers for Uncountable Nouns

​These quantifiers quantify only the uncountable nouns.

• Jeff is a bit tired.

• Jim has much patience.

• Alice had a little juice and nothing else.

• We have much time to complete the project.
