Conjunctions

are words used to connect words, phrases, or clauses.

Coordinating conjunctions join like

with like (i.e., they join a noun with another noun, an adjective with

another adjective, etc.). The most common ones are and, but,

and or. There are seven in total: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.

(You can remember them using the mnemonic F.A.N.B.O.Y.S.)

SUBORDINATING

Subordinating conjunctions join subordinate clauses to main clauses. Common examples are although, because, if, since, unless, until, and while.

Correlative conjunctions are used in pairs to join alternatives or equal elements. The most common pairs are either/or, neither/nor, and not only/but also.

Making Generalization is the ability to use skills that a student has learned in new and different environments. Whether those skills are functional or academic, once a skill is learned, it needs to be used in multiple settings.

In so doing, they must first identify the essential information and then summarize it in a way that provides an overarching explanation of the concept.

An adverb is a word that is used to change, modify or qualify several types of words including an adjective, a verb, a clause, another adverb, or any other type of word or phrase, with the exception of determiners and adjectives, that directly modify nouns.

 Theme - is defined as a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work, which may be stated directly

or indirectly.

 Philosophy/ message/moral

 Tone/atmosphere/mood in written composition, is an attitude of a writer toward a subject or an audience.- / can also describe the attitude of a group of people or the feeling of a film, novel or piece of music.

 Speaker/persona - can refer to the characters in any dramatic or literary

 Figures of speech - is a word or phrase using figurative language

 Imagery- means to use figurative language to represent objects,

 Symbols - artistic imitation or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or

otherwise intangible truth or states

 Metrics- the art of metrical composition.
