Alliteration and Assonance

  • Alliteration is the repetition of a consonant sound at the beginnings of words, usually near one another.

  • Assonance is the repetition of a vowel sound within a group of words.

  • Alliteration and assonance are poetic devices that add a song-like quality to a poem and draw attention to certain words or phrases.
