How do you add the fractions?

Good thing you already know how to make EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS (let's review that first...check out the next two slides)​

Equivalent means "equal". Equivalent fractions take up the same amount of shaded space; they have the same area. Look at the figures to the right.​

Notice that the shaded part of both circles covers the same amount. This means the fractions 1/2 and 2/4 are equal.
