Reflexive verbs

Reflexive verbs are verbs that are used together with "myself", "yourself", etc. E.g. "I help myself".

However, not all the verbs that are reflexive in English are reflexive in German, and vice versa.​

Some examples:

Ich verstehe mich gut mit meiner Schwester - I get on well with my sister

Wir streiten uns - we argue​

Genders and endings

The words for "next", "last", etc. in German change depending on the gender of the word that follows.

The ending of the noun, or the group that word belongs to gives you a clue as to the gender.

E.g. words ending in 'e', 'ung' are almost always feminine (exception: das Wochenende)

Days, months, seasons, weather words are masculine (e.g. der Tag, der Sommer, der Regen)​

The perfect tense

Two key things to remember -

1. is there a verb of movement (going, flying, travelling, etc)? If yes, use sein. If no, use haben.

2. You need 3 parts to the sentence: subject - sein/haben - main verb (usually starting with ge)

Ich bin gefahren (I went/travelled) Ich habe gegessen (I ate)

Wir sind geflogen (We flew) Wir haben gesehen (we saw)
