 direct object pronouns in French

Je regarde le film = Je le regarde

  • In a sentence, if a noun or an object appears directly after a verb, it is called a direct object.

  • To avoid repeating the direct object in subsequent sentences, the noun is replaced with a direct object pronoun = it/him/her/them.

  • The direct object pronouns are le (him/it) and la (her/it) for singular nouns, and les (them) for plural nouns. (me and te = you)

  • The direct object pronouns in French are placed in front of the verb. (I it watch)

  • Before a word that begins with a vowel or a silent h, use l' instead of le or la = Je l'aime (I love it)
