Plotting Points in the Coordinate Plane
Learning Goal: Students can plot ordered pairs and identify quadrants on the coordinate plane.
2
Key Vocabulary
The coordinate plane is formed by two number lines.
One number line is horizontal and is called the x-axis.
The other number line is vertical number line and is called the y-axis.
The x-axis and the y-axis intersect at a point called the origin. At the origin, both x and y are equal to zero. The origin as at (0,0).
3
Key Vocabulary
The coordinate plane is divided into four equal parts by the intersection of the x-axis (the horizontal number line) and the y-axis. These four regions are called quadrants because they each represent one-quarter of the whole coordinate plane

9
Key Vocabulary
An ordered pair refers to a pair of numbers written inside brackets and are separated by a comma.
The x coordinate is the first number and tells you how many spaces to move left or right.
the y coordinate is the second number and tells you how many spaces to move up or down.
