Underwater/Oceanic Landforms

Just like the name says, all of these landforms can be found underwater.

What's great about many of them is that they have a continental landform that they look just like. So you'll be able to connect some of the likely unknown names to names that you do know.

If this were a continental landform, we would call it a mountain range.

But since it's underwater, we call it a mid-ocean ridge.

A volcano

2

A mid-ocean ridge

If this were a continental landform, we would call it a canyon.

But since it's an underwater landform, we call it a trench.

Seamounts can be pointed at the top.

Or they can be flatter on the top.

If seamounts were a continental landform, we would call them mountains or volcanoes.

But since it's an underwater landform, we call them seamounts.

They can be active or inactive volcanoes, but are usually inactive.
