The imperfect is another way to talk about the past in Spanish.

Do we really need another way? YES. Spanish sees a difference in past events.

​What is it?

​When do I use it?

The imperfect tense is used for:

• Descriptions in the past (what something or someone was like)

  En mi escuela primaria, las instalaciones eran mejores

• Repeated actions in the past

  Tenía clases de gimnasia cada semana

• What people used to do or how things used to be like

  Antes jugábamos a fútbol, pero ahora preferimos salir con amigos​

You use the PRETERITE TENSE for single events in the past

You use the IMPERFECT TENSE for repeated actions or things you used to do in the past​
