​LESSON OBJECTIVES

​SPEAKING

• it is an assembly or merely engaging ​in oral conversation.

• it is ​the action of conveying information or expressing one's thoughts and feelings in spoken language.

​SPEAKER

• an effective speaker is constantly aware that spoken communication is primarily verbal.

• its main goal as communicator is to be able to put his or her message across clearly and meaningfully to his or her listener/ audience.

​VERBAL FEATURES OF ORAL COMMUNICATION

1. PITCH

   • A high or low pitch can indicate shifts in the emotional tone of the message.

2. VOLUME

   • ​Varying the volume, or the loudness or softness of the speaker's voice, can add control or interest to the message being conveyed.

​ 3. STRESS

• -the degree of emphasis given to certain sounds, words or phrases, can draw the listener's attention to important points of the message.

  4. ​INTONATION

     • correct use of intonation or variation in stress and pitch, can express different shades of emotion and meaning.

5. RATE

   • pausing or slowing down the tempo or rate of speech can allow the listeners can absorb and respond emotionally to the message.

6. PHRASING

   • proper phrasing or blending of ​words can add rhythm and clarity to spoken communication.
