Present Simple Inversion

An inverted sentence switches the placement of the verb before the subject of a sentence as if in a question. Here are some examples of inverted sentences:

  • Not only is he difficult to understand, but he is also funny.

  • Never have I understood less about grammar.

  • Scarcely have they been on time.

Inversion for Emphasis

  • Adverbs of frequency with a negative meaning: never/hardly ever/rarely/seldom e.g. Rarely had the kids been so excited.

  • Not only..., but also... - when not only refers to the verb or the object of a sentence e.g. Not only does she play the piano, but she also paints beautifully.

​Future Passive

We use the future passive form to talk

Passive Voice

We use the passive voice when the action is more important than the subject.

The subject of the sentence does not do the action, but receives it.

Pollution will destroy our planet.​ -> Active Voice (pollution is doing the destroying)

The planet will be ​destroyed by pollution. -> Passive Voice (the planet is not doing the destroying)

Future Passive

To form the future passive, we use will + be + past participle.

REMEMBER

The subject is not doing the action.

The marks will be uploaded tonight by the teacher.​
