What are independent clauses?

  • An independent clause is essentially a simple sentence

  • It has a subject and a predicate/verb

  • It can stand alone as a sentence and still make sense!

  • If it can't make sense on it's own, its a dependent clause... we will talk about those more in a later lesson!

LOGIC

  • Compound sentences need logic, too!

  • Be sure that your two clauses are related before you join them together! This is especially important when using just a semicolon!

  • Also, be sure that if you use a FANBOY or a TRANSITION, the word your using makes sense in the sentence!
