Would rather /…..‘d rather แปลว่า “น่าจะ….ดีกว่า”   มีโครงสร้างในการใช้ดังนี้

1. หากประโยคมีประธานตัวเดียว และพูดถึงปัจจุบันหรืออนาคต มีโครงสร้างประโยคดังนี้         ….would rather + V1( ….than )

เช่น I would rather go home with you. = ฉันน่าจะกลับบ้านกับเธอมากกว่า

2. ถ้าในประโยคมีประธาน 2 ตัว ที่พูดถึงปัจจุบันหรืออนาคต มีโครงสร้างประโยคดังนี้

                    Subject 1 + would rather + subject 2 + V2(…than)

เช่น I would ratheryou go. = ฉันอยากจะให้คุณไปมากกว่า

3. ถ้าในประโยคมีประธาน 1 ตัว ที่พูดถึงเรื่องในอดีต มีโครงสร้างประโยคดังนี้

….would rather + have + V3

เช่น I would rather have talked with her in private. =ฉันอยากจะพูดกับเธอ เป็นการ ส่วนตัวมากกว่า (พูดถึงว่า ในอดีตอยากจะพูด แต่ปัจจุบันก็คือยังไม่ได้พูด)

4. ถ้าในประโยคมีประธาน 2 ตัว ที่พูดถึงเรื่องในอดีต มีโครงสร้างประโยคดังนี้

                    …would rather + ประธาน + had + V3

เช่น I would rather my dad had picked me up. = ฉันอยากให้พ่อมารับฉันมากกว่า

Had better มีความหมายว่า  “ควรจะ…ดีกว่า” มีความหมายคล้ายๆกับคำว่า should หรือ ought to มีโครงสร้างประโยคดังนี้

had better + V.infinitive (V.0ไม่ผัน) 

 เช่น It’s getting dark. We’d better go back home. = เริ่มจะมืดแล้ว  พวกเราควรจะกลับบ้านกันดีกว่านะ

had better ก็มักจะใช้คู่กับคำว่า  มิฉะนั้น  ไม่เช่นนั้น

เช่น You had better study for exam, or you’ll fail. = เธอน่าจะไปอ่านหนังสือ

สอบดีกว่านะ  ไม่งั้นเธออาจจะสอบตกได้
