1
Why is there traffic?
LA Traffic and what we can do about it.
2
Multiple Choice
Why is there so much traffic in LA and the USA?
Because the speed limit is too slow
Because there are too many people in Los Angeles
Because there are too many cars on the road
Because cars are too big today
3
it seems obvious that there are too many cars on the road leading to the traffic we see today, but solutions are harder to find.
Some text here about the topic of discussion.
Too many cars
4
Multiple Select
What can we do to reduce traffic?
Get self-driving cars, and ban regular cars.
Change people from driving when there is traffic.
Put half of the people in flying cars so there are fewer cars.
Design cities to be more centered around people.
5
Many cities around Europe look like this. They have cores where people can shop and live that are very easy to walk around in. If you wanted to go far the region is connected by public transportation.
Walkable
Most cities around the US look like this, especially in many parts of LA. Everything is very spread out and had a much lower density. This means people NEED cars to get around.
Most US cities
6
Multiple Choice
Why doesn't the USA have good public transportation?
Because the USA is too big to connect cities
Because the US dose does not have enough population density in cities
7
In the US all zoning must be segregated by usage, and an EX: there can not be a small shop inside a neighborhood. Their fore things are spread out so they can not be connected by walking or public transportation.
US Zoneing
In the picture above there is a lot more mixing and higher density making it easier to walk from home, shopping, and school. Then if you need to go to another area you can take something like light rial.
European Zoning
8
Multiple Choice
What is congestion pricing?
Taxing the rich more for the roads
Charging small free to use congested roads
Making people pay more for popular car moddles
9
Congestion pricing works by charging a fee when roads get very busy. It aims to discourage unnecessary trips from being made.
Note: It very good for traffic when there is more mass transit for people to take alternatively.
Congestion Pricing
10
Multiple Choice
So what is the best way to solve traffic?
Congestion Pricing & Public Transportation.
Public Transportation, congestion pricing, & mixed zoning.
Bigger roads, self-driving cars, & higher speed limits.
11
What can we take away.
A lot of what causes traffic in the USA is caused by the way the cities are designed. They why are set up makes things much further away form each other making it os the only way around is by using a car. Change can be made and our cities can be redesigned to make public transportation and walking viable methods to get around in tern reducing traffic on our roads.
