Kindertransport – Children’s Transport

Once the Nazis were in power, things began to get very difficult for Germany’s Jewish population. Between 1938 and the outbreak of war in 1939, Jewish parents began a movement to save their children.

Kindertransport was similar to evacuation.

It was an attempt by parents to send their children somewhere safe and save their lives.

Around 10,000 children from Geramny, Austria, Poland and Czechoslovakia were sent away on trains and boats by their parents to families in UK between Dec 1938 and May 1940.

Many governments across the world refused to accept refugees from Germany, but the British government responded to a campaign and decided to allow children up to age of 17, who had a bond of £50, to enter the country on a temporary visa.
