Kindertransport – Children’s Transport

Once the Nazis were in power, things began to get very difficult for Germany’s Jewish population. Between 1938 and the outbreak of war in 1939, Jewish parents began a movement to save their children.

Kindertransport was similar to evacuation.

It was an attempt by parents to send their children somewhere safe and save their lives.

​Around 10,000 children from Geramny, Austria, Poland and Czechoslovakia were sent away on trains and boats by their parents to families in UK between Dec 1938 and May 1940.

​Many governments across the world refused to accept refugees from Germany, but the British government responded to a campaign and decided to allow children up to age of 17, who had a bond of £50, to enter the country on a temporary visa.
