Rainwater collects on Earth's surface and flows downhill
On parts of earth that cannot soak up the water, the runoff flows on top of land into creeks, streams, and rivers, which bring some of it to the oceans.
Runoff-
Where runoff soaks into the land, it flows underground as groundwater.

Pollution happens when people dispose of waste or make land,water, or air dirty or unsafe for people or other living things.

When people add wastes or chemicals directly to water (water pollution)
For example, point source pollution happens if a factory dumps chemcial wstes directly into a river or ocean.

When people add wastes or chemicals to air or land which is eventually washed into the water.
For example, farmers add fertilizers to fields that get washed into a stream, river, or aquifer. Fertilizer harms living things.
