Addition of Fractions
Addition of Fractions requires you to complete multiple steps in order to solve the problem.
Step 1- Check to see if denominators are the same.
Step 2- If the same- add the top and bottom numbers together
Step 3- Simplify/Reduce to lowest term using GCF
Step 4- If different denominators, you will need to use the Least Common Factor to find a number to make the bottom number or you can keep one of the numbers- as long as it is a factor of both numbers
Step 5- Solve like regular addition of fractions problem
Step 6- Simplify/Reduce to lowest term using GCF.
2
Rational Numbers
Rational Numbers can be terminating or repeating decimals.
Rational Numbers can be fractions, where the denominator is not 0.
3
Converting Decimals to Fractions
Use place value to convert from decimal to fraction form.
4
Every rational number can be expressed as either a terminating or repeating decimal.
Terminating - decimal that ends and does not repeat
Repeating - decimal that has one or more digits that repeat

Multiplying Mixed Numbers
Please write this down if it will help you to answer the questions on the next few slides, come back to this if you need help!
When multiplying mixed numbers, convert them to an improper fraction first.
13
Dividing Fractions
Rule#1 for Dividing Fractions: DON'T DIVIDE.
Instead of dividing you do this procedure:
KEEP, CHANGE, FLIP
14
15
What are factors?
Numbers that you multiply together to make a product
Products are answers to multiplication problems.
3 and 5 are factors of 15 because 3 x 5 =15
15 is the product of the FACTORS 3 and 5.
16
Listing Method
16 = 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
24 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
If we will compare the list of factors of 16 and 24, we can identify the common factors.
GCF is the highest common factor that appears on the list.
The GCF of 16 and 24 is 8.
