​Ser practice

• Ser is a verb. A verb is an action word or a state of being.

• Ser means “to be” when you are talking about a permanent state.

• “To be” is irregular in English and in Spanish.  In English, we say:

  • I am

  • You are

  • He/she/it is

  • We are

  • They are

​The form of "ser" that you use in Spanish depends on the subject of the sentence. Remember, the subject is who or what is doing the action.

​For example, if the subject of the sentence is "yo" (meaning "I") and I want to say "I am," I would instead say "Yo soy," because "soy" is the form of "ser" that goes with "yo."

Remember, pronouns are often optional in Spanish if it's obvious who you're talking about.

​Using verbs without a pronoun
