Heredity is the passing on of inherited characteristics genetically from one generation to another.
Examples:
A mother and father with brown eyes having a child with brown eyes.
An aphid (insect) passing on its green color to its offspring.
An oak tree passing on its genetic information to the next generation.

Multiple Choice
Which of the following best describes heredity?
A student learning how to read in school.
The passing of blood from parent to offspring.
The transfer of genetic information from parent to offspring.
The largest puppy in the litter getting all the food.
4
Genetic Information = Genetic Material
Genes --> DNA --> Chromosomes --> Nucleus --> Cell
5
Plant cell stores genetic information inside the nucleus!
6
2 parents
Diverse offspring
50% of DNA from each biological parent
Sexual Reproduction
1 parent
Uniform offspring
100% of DNA passed from parent to offspring through mitosis (makes copies)
Asexual Reproduction
Two types of Reproduction
