INFERENCES
Sometimes writers give information or express ideas directly (or explicitly). Other times, they convey their meaning indirectly(or implicitly). When this is the case you need to infer or READ BETWEEN THE LINES.
Making inferences is about connecting the dots between what is stated or what is unstated. As a reader, you must combine what the passage says with your background knowledge to make the best possible GUESS or INFERENCE.
19
review: making inferences
You make inferences when you use clues or evidence from a text to figure out something the author doesn't tell you.
When you make an inference, you should be able to identify story clues and use your own experiences.
Good inferences are based on strong evidence, hints, or clues.
We also make inferences when watching media or listening!
