Responding to Dance

Year 10 Dance

2

- Mikhail Baryshnikov

“Dance for me a minute, and I’ll tell you who you are.”

3

Why do we respond to Dance?

Through responding, students ‘explore, respond to, analyse and interpret artworks’ (Australian Curriculum, 2017). Wen Making/Performing we work as the artist, whereas when Responding we work as the audience of the art. In this way we can respond to Dance works by other artists, or work we have created ourselves.

Understanding Dance from the perspective of the audience better prepares us to work as the artist. The ability to communicate choreographic intent is integral to how we create and how we interpret Dance.
