  • Definition: The narrator in the story is telling his/her thoughts and feelings.

  • Key Words: I, Me, My

  • Example: "My name is Percy Jackson. I'm 12 years old. Until a few months ago, I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York."

Third Person Point of View

  • The narrator uses pronouns such as "he," "she," "it," "they," and "them" often.

  • The narrator is not a character in the story.

  • This point of view is the most common.

  • There are two types of third person points of view: Limited and Omniscient.

  • Definition: The narrator is outsie of the story (not a character) and zoom's on ONE person's thoughts and feelings.

  • Key Words: he/she, his/her, name of character

  • Example: "Jason fondly remembered the taste of his grandma's soup."

  • Definition: The narrator is "omniscient" because it is "all-knowing." It knows ALL of the characters' thoughts and feelings.

  • Key Words: he/she, his/her, name of character

  • Example: "Jason fondly remembered the taste of his grandma's soup, but Esmeralda recalled the smell of rotten eggs every time she cooked it."
