Conditional sentences have two parts or clauses that give a condition in the dependent clause and a result in the independent clause. The condition clause usually contains an if statement.

"If you get a high-paying job, your friend might ask you for a loan"

In this sentence, we have two clauses.

• The if clause (CONDITION)

  "If you get a high-paying job, ..."

• and the dependent clauses (CONSEQUENCE).

  "your friends might ask you for a loan."

• The clause "If you get a high-paying job, ..." is a possible situation, it may happen one day.

• The rest of the conversation "your friends might ask you for a loan." is a consequence of getting a high paying job.
