1. Narrative writing tells a story using

   1. a beginning,

   2. middle, and

   3. an end. 

2. It includes elements such as characters, setting, problem, and solution. 

3. The author’s purpose is usually to entertain or teach a lesson. 

4. Narrative writing can be fact or fiction but the process is the same.

Relative Clauses

These describe the preceding noun in such a way to distinguish it from other nouns of the same class. A clause of this kind is essential to clear understanding of the noun.

She lives in New York. She likes living in New York.

→ She lives in New York, which she likes

​You will not write the same nouns as they are replaced by that/which/who.

I bought a new car. It is very fast.

→ I bought a new car that is very fast.

Example

We can use relative clauses to join two English sentences, or to give more information about something.

Relative clauses using relative pronouns as subjects

Who to replace a “person” subject.

​Which is used to replace a “non-person” subject.

​That is used to replace which or who.

​Note: The second subject must be the same as the first object to create a relative clause.
